Our next concert will be on 6th December 2008 featuring a new percussion concerto by our conductor John Mortimer,
Schubert 'Unfinished' Symphony, Vivaldi Concerto Grosso, and Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld Overture.
 
This season, the St Andrew Orchestra is going to be working in conjunction with the Edinburgh Concert Band. There will be a performance from the St Andrew Orchestra, and the Edinburgh Concert Band of John Glenesk Mortimer's new piece - 'Percussionissimo!' which features three percussion soloists. The piece will be performed by the St Andrew Orchestra on 6th December, and by the Edinburgh Concert Band on the 7th December 2008.

Who Are We?
 
The St Andrew Amateur Orchestral Society was founded in 1878 and has given concerts every year since then.
 
Previous Patrons have included Hans Gal, and some recent conductors have included Noel De Jongh, John Willmett, and Alison Rushworth. Some soloists we have played with include Roddy Long, Garry Walker, Andrew Shetcliffe, Steven Osborne, Malcolm Watson, Sandy McGrattan, Edna Arthur, Elizabeth Clements, Pamela Turley, Malcolm Martineau, Inga Mantle and others.
 
 
 
We rehearse between September and December, and January and May, putting on two concerts a year. Our rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings at Gillespies School in Edinburgh. For our latest dates and programme, click on 'Programme and Rehearsals' above.

Our conductor is John Mortimer. John has conducted and played in Scotland and Switzerland as well as having been a composer and arranger for many years.
